If youโ€™ve been keeping up our blogs and Instagram,  youโ€™d be familiar with our Tallowwood Kitchen, a showstopping culinary haven nestled in the Gondawana Forest in Northern NSW.

Like any design, the materiality played a crucial role in achieving a functional kitchen & scullery space that seamlessly integrated into the stunning architectural mid-century home.  Today we are delving a little deeper into the unique yet perfectly curated material palette of the Tallowwood Kitchen.

Canova Marble Stone

The kitchenโ€™s focal point is undoubtedly the breath taking marble benchtops!  We couldnโ€™t go past Artedomusโ€™ Canova Marble, itโ€™s rich hues and strikingly unique character makes it the perfect benchtop that blends opulence and practicality.

Being a natural marble, this stone will beautifully age over time creating an ever changing character to the kitchen.

Shou Sugi Ban Charred Timber Cladding

Breaking away from conventional choices, weโ€™ve introduced Shou Sugi Ban Charred Timber Cladding by Mortlock for the cabinetry. With itโ€™s distinctively rich, dark finish it not only exudes elegance but durability and sustainability.  The material, which is rooted in Japanese tradition not only celebrates the natural qualities of the product but itโ€™s longevity makes it the perfect hero surface for the hub of this family home.

The tactile quality invites the natural light to interact and highlight the natural characters and textural variations of the timber beneath, seamlessly integrating into itโ€™s surrounding natural materials.

With itโ€™s clean streamlined form, the blackened steel subtly enhances the rangehoodโ€™s impressive size all whilst seamlessly complimenting the unique charm of the adjacent finishes. The durable qualities of blackened steel has created the perfect dynamic of marrying form and function.

Raw Aged Bronze

This kitchen is the perfect example of why we love mixing metals! The exquisite execution of the custom detailing allows the bronze to highlight the unique character and formwork throughout.  The intentional raw finish allows the metal to accept the daily use of the space, celebrating the natural characteristics of the material.

โ€˜Brick-Lookโ€™ Ceramic Tile

Selected from an architectural ceramic range manufactured with traditional Japanese craftsmanship.  The distinctive tile introduces a robust touch whilst meeting the modern functional needs of a scullery space.  The meticulous artistry of the tile, whilst serving a striking contrast also celebrates authenticity along with the surrounding materiality.
